One of the best ways to start getting more grateful children is to start a gratitude journal. But all gratitude journals are not created equal.
In this video we’ll teach you how to start a gratitude journal for kids that actually works for teaching them to be more grateful. We call it a Great Big Book of Gratitude because it goes well beyond what ‘normal’ gratitude journals ask you to do by just writing down a few things each day that you’re grateful for.
This gratitude journal for you and for your children will help you shape thoughts, words and actions for gratitude which you have to do if you want any lasting or meaningful change.
I hope you and your children will start yours today!!
Hi, Cheri Fogarty here, Author of How To Get Happier & More Grateful Children In Just 21 Days and Founder of The Habit Gratitude Blueprint™ For Busy Families where we show you how to get happier and more grateful children and be happier and more grateful yourself.
And this week I want you and your children, if you want to bring more gratitude and happiness into your home, one simple thing you can do is start a Great Big Book of Gratitude or Gratitude Journal, for each person in your family.
This can be a blank notebook, a composition book, and art journal or a sketchpad and then each week that we do this, it won’t be every week, but when we have the journal entries, you’re kids will be answering and you’ll be answering one super simple question that really gets to the heart of gratitude.
Not just listing things that you’re grateful for, but really gets to the heart of feelings of gratitude, feel it, show it, live it, of why they’re grateful for things.
So each time they do an entry it builds a little bit and increases gratitude and happiness.
So, it’s slow and steady, it’s something that’s easy and fun, and that you and your kids can do no matter how busy you are because you only have to answer one or maybe two questions at a time.
The gratitude journal questions are simple and fun and meet your kids where they are.
Let your kids be as creative as they want, decorate their gratitude journal, have them write in it, have them draw pictures or put pictures depending on what the questions are. Just really, really have fun with it.
For the first gratitude journal entry this week, ask your children what their favorite electronic device or modern day technology is. For teenagers it might be their cell phone, it probably will be their cell phone, for teenage boys maybe video games or their xbox, or maybe for younger children it’s tv, cable, movies, whatever the case may be.
Have them write down what their #1 or favorite electronic device or modern day technology is and then more importantly, why. Why is it meaningful to them, why does it matter, why is it important to them.
And that’s it, super simple, right?!
So it’s just two things this week and then it will just be one after that:
- Start your Great Big Book Of Gratitude or Gratitude Journal and have your children start theirs
- Answer the first gratitude journal question
And remember that at CheriFogarty.com that as we go through this process I’ll have lots of quick and easy Gratitude Journal questions and tips for you and for your children, to help you and your kids bring more gratitude and happiness into your home.
So that’s it. Let me know in the comments below what you think of this tip and when you and your children start your Great Big Book of Gratitude or Gratitude Journal.
Be sure to come back after you’ve answered the questions and let us know how it went and what your kids thought of it.
If it’s okay with your kids to share their answers or pictures of their pages, but be sure to ask them first. I have two teenagers and I learned a long time ago to always ask them before sharing anything. Come back and let us know what you and your children chose as your favorite technology and why.
We’d love to hear from you!
